EARLY PHOTOGRAPHY

The Cabinet of Art and Medicine’ is a fascinating online bibliography of medical books containing photographic images published before 1890. Interesting examples on the website www.artandmedicine.com are the sets of before and after photographs of burn victims treated by the Harvard surgeon Charles B. Porter.

The first volume of ‘Illustrated Medicine and Surgery’ (1882) can now be downloaded from the internet. It contains several interesting plastic surgical cases nicely illustrated by before and after photographs [Click here to download the book].
